Q&A

How do you eco?

I recycle everything that I can, I buy organic when possible and available, I buy local, I look for green businesses, I drive as little as possible and lump all my errands into one area,I use all natural cleaning products, and natural bath, body and personal care products and most importantly I spread the word about being eco through my writing. I am always sharing what I learn, spreading the word about green products and businesses and encouraging others to go green. And with my book, The Everything Green Wedding Book and related freelance writing projects- I hope to green the world one vow at a time.

I also craft green and teach my children about living eco-friendly.

Why did you go eco?

I have always been a bit of a treehugger. When I was a kid I was all into recycling and being earth conscious, this was long before words like being green or sustainable were in my vocab, back then it was being a treehugging hippie but I did it anyway.

Later as an adult being earth conscious was always part of my life, even if it was subconscious.

Now it is a full fledged lifestyle. I think green whenever I do something and while I have more to do, more that I could do, I try to do something green everyday. I am always on the look out for new green goods or new ways to transform old stuff into something stylish and usable. I am an avid crafter and I remake and repurpose discarded stuff all the time.

I am also a mother of three which had a major influence on being eco-conscious in my choices. I want what's best for them and I want them to have a clean, safe future.

What's your favorite eco tip?

Do what you can. I think people can sometimes get overstressed or confused about going green, the best thing is to take it one step at a time. Do what is easy to start with then just keep going. Make a pledge to green one thing a day or a week, soon you'll be really green with little effort and no stress.
